The Graveyard Shift
–{ @thehallowedhouse - for Marcus}–
The mentor assassin was somewhat of a modern day nomad, moving from place to place to where she was needed. It was not unusual for her, the process of packing up her belongings and throwing them into her car, moving from bureau to bureau, apartment to apartment. At least the process was much faster nowadays and overall it was rather… painless.
Shadow found herself here to fulfil a mission, as usually is the case, but work was rather slow meaning the assassin had time to work on her skills to keep them clean and smooth. The shooting range gave her an opportunity to practice, without drawing unnecessary attention to herself. It offered a variety of weapons to hone her skills, despite the fact she would take her blades over a gun any day but practicality trumps her own preferences. At the time she would be there… it would be empty… or so she thought. Since she usually slept during the day, she didn’t think anyone but the range owner would be there at night. At first she thought it was a fluke but it kept happening… of course why he was here at this hour was none of her business… but… she was trained to investigate that which she found to be usual.
It was common for people to work nights shifts and sleep during the day, but the others that they were both there seemed to break from that framework. Of course her stay at the range was sporadic, being called away for updates and new discoveries and may have missed things… but it still begged the question. Call her paranoid but maybe he was here for some similar reason she was there, her mind was screaming at her. It was probably nothing… and a little social interaction… wouldn’t be that bad.
One night she decided she was going to approach him, deliberately having a rather poor performance, noticing he was certainly not.
The assassin leaves out a groan of disappointment, almost sounding tired.
“Two misses again…” she put her gun down as the targets came forward she looked to his.“But yet again you aced it… it seems like being stuck with the graveyard shift is not affecting you at all!”
So he was also visiting here, interesting they chose to spend their time in the same place, even if his reason for being her was much more justified. She sat into the car passenger side, putting on her belt as she did so.
“Not at all, I am working as a consultant historian there’s a group of archaeologists working nearby, they have only permission to work at night, I felt I would be better help by being awake too in case they find something urgent or need help…”
She smiled as she waited for him to get in too, hoping her answer would be sufficient.
